Military Kids are Heroes at Lake Carolina
April 15, 2013 from 4pm – 6pm

COLUMBIA, SC -  Lake Carolina’s Military Outreach Program partnered with Ft. Jackson, Operation Military Kids, Lake Carolina Elementary and the Jeep Rogers YMCA to celebrate our Military Kids on Monday afternoon.

Attendance was well above expectations with more than 100 children participating in the family friendly event at Lake Carolina’s Market Park.  Ridgeview High School opened the festivities with a presentation of colors & the National Anthem.   Activities included crafts, face painting, athletic events, and music.  Crafts were provided by the local
4H, Operation Military Kids, and the Early Learning Center.  Doodlebug painted faces and the YMCA orchestrated a “get active” fun run, push-up contest & zumba lessons.  Sergeant Boot Camp Foster led the kids in a warm-up before the athletic events.

Midway through the event, purple balloons were released into the sky in honor of our Military Kids.  It was a beautiful afternoon in Columbia, SC.

The purpose of Lake Carolina’s Military Outreach Program is to connect people socially with other military families in Northeast Columbia by providing opportunities to make new friends and honor their dedication to our country.

Just 20 minutes from Fort Jackson and 45 minutes from Shaw Air Force Base, Lake Carolina offers residents a variety of amenities from community pools to sports teams, a new YMCA to top-rated schools. The wide sidewalks and abundance of parks and green space provide the perfect backdrop to the friendly neighbors that stop and chat. There are outdoor movies and concerts, oyster roasts and a Wine Festival. It is the ideal setting for military families to thrive when they relocate.

Lake Carolina, situated on 1850 acres in Columbia, SC, is Columbia’s #1 Neighborhood. Within the community are over six miles of shoreline on a 200-acre freshwater lake for swimming, fishing, sailing, boating and waterskiing; 30+ miles of walking trails; a Town Center with shopping, dining and professional services, Columbia’s newest YMCA, Richland 2 schools; and 20+ community events each year. Lake Carolina is also home to Richland County Sheriff substation and Allied Barton provides  24hr community patrolling. Lake Carolina features traditional new homes, townhomes, live/work residences, executive courtyard and single family homes.
