Injured Vet Gets New Home

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- People from the Lake Carolina Community have welcomed an injured veteran to his new home.

"I look at it like a second chance on life, you know...I could have been one of those killed in action or something like that," says injured veteran Ronell Bradley.

He says, "God provided me a second chance to be on this earth and now I'm going to motivate other injured veterans and other soldiers to be positive in life."

In 2005 Bradley suffered injuries from a blast that resulted in the amputation of his right leg, thumb, and several injuries in his left leg. "Don't sit in your room being depressed, get out there, do things; go online search for different organizations. There are people out there willing to volunteer their time and service to help you out," says Bradley.

Saturday, Homes For Our Troops presented Bradley with the key to his new home, free of charge. "It shows that there are people who are out there that really care about our veterans and soldiers that sacrifice for our country" says Bradley.

Their mission is to give injured veterans a new start by building  homes that are  tailored to their special needs. Bradley adds, "It shows the true American Spirit."

Bradley's wife Cynthia says it is truly a blessing to be given a mortgage-free home by the group. "It means that my husband can have his freedom back. It means that he can function self- sufficiently; and its truly amazing, the support of the community that came out, made this day possible for us."

Bradley says now that his home is handicap accessible he doesn't have to rely on his family to do things. One of the first things he said he is going to do is "Probably laundry and cook."

Homes For Our Troops says they plan to build 100 more homes in the next three years.
